Child & Youth Counsellor -Intensive Treatment Services

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is seeking a full-time Child and Youth Counsellor for Intensive Treatment Services. Under the direction and accountability to Noojmowin Teg Health Centre senior administration and the Mental Health and Addictions Manager, the Child & Youth Counsellor is responsible to provide: professional clinical assessment, counselling, education and referral services to aboriginal children and youth under the age of 18 throughout Manitoulin Island; and, holistic health promotion services in the form of educational and primary prevention activities. The Worker is also responsible for providing therapeutic intervention for foster families in collaboration with Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services.

The Child & Youth Counsellor will collaborate with all health team members, schools, community agencies and the general public. The services will be completed with guidance and in consultation from the department manager.

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is an Aboriginal Health Access Centre that provides traditional healing, primary health, mental health & addictions, and health and wellness program services to community members of the seven First Nations of Manitoulin District and Espanola and surrounding areas. Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, occasional exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage and cedar, may occur in the work setting.

Qualifications

 Successful completion of Bachelor of Social Work degree
 Registration with the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers
 3 years’ experience providing clinical service to children & youth, experience with aboriginal families preferred
 Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
 Certified to deliver Triple P Programming or alternate Positive Parenting Strategies
 Knowledge and understanding of Anishinabek language, traditions, culture, protocols and relevant health issues.
 Experience with charting in Electronic Medical Records How to Apply
