Guiding Principles

guiding principle

Our braids woven together unite us and consist of culture, programs,

services, and partnerships. We are responsible for braiding Wiingash

(Sweetgrass) with honour and respect just as though it is the hair of our

Shkakimigkwe (Mother Earth).

Led by Teachings of Sacred Fire, Medicines and Anishnabek languages, we embrace Mino-bimaadziwin (good life) and learn as a united organization (Board, Staff, Traditional Advisory Committee, and leadership) as we find better ways to learn from and integrate our programs and services.

We support dynamic and optimal health by fostering a culture of evidence-based practice and critical thinking leading to improved health outcomes.

We recognize community as a medicine. We will focus on opportunities that are strengths-based. By strengthening our partnerships, communities will begin to seize opportunities led by Mnidoo-Mnising and surrounding area Anishnabek healing practices.

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre’s Service Philosophy

medicine wheel

The Noojmowin Teg Health Centre’s philosophy is based on what was before us, looking back is what helps guide our future.

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre recognizes the four directions, the four seasons, and four quadrants of the medicine wheel, and the four strands of Wiingash (Sweetgrass), as demonstrated in the medicine wheel.
